Manage Eligibility and Enrollment

The Benefitfocus Platform™ is a powerful tool that manages everything users need -- from employee eligibility, to enforcing business rules, to daily tasks. The Platform can assist HR Professionals with features that allow them to add, update and cancel benefits, as well as review and approve any employee changes. The Platform’s easy-to-use benefit enrollment functionality allows for more flexible and configurable business rule enforcement. The Platform maximizes employer/employee relations by streamlining management into a timely, more beneficial process.

Define Eligibility Rules

The Platform uses employee categories (such as location, division, classification and so on) to configure benefits, users, plan rates and enrollment rules. For example, part-time employees may be eligible for medical benefits while full-time employees can enroll in medical, dental and life benefits. By using categories, the Platform can provide an unlimited number of benefit packages for each employer.

Enforce Business Rules

Defining and enforcing business rules can be complex, especially when they vary by benefit type, plan and type of employee. There are specific rules for life event changes, group number assignments, wait periods, health statements, coordination of benefits and the list goes on and on. The Platform provides the flexibility to configure business rules while making it easy to use for employees to enroll in their benefits.

Manage the Process

HR administrators save time with the Platform’s user-friendly tools, such as:

  • Task lists to manage your daily workflow
  • Task Launcher to quickly perform specific tasks for employees
  • HR Toolbox to customize the employee experience with HR notes and custom pages, as well as enable additional features, such as W4, direct deposit, military and emergency contact information
  • Reports to analyze data and trends

The Platform automates the process, allowing benefit administrators to focus on HR, instead of worrying about how to apply complicated date rules, work through cumbersome procedures or try to read smudges on paper forms.

Support Cafeteria Style Benefit Programs

Employers can configure cafeteria style benefit programs on the Platform. With these programs, employers contribute a defined amount toward employee benefits, and employees choose how to use those funds.

Employers can also incorporate health and wellness incentives into these programs. For example they can provide “credits” to employees who lead a healthy lifestyle or agree to participate in a wellness program or a Personal Health Assessment (PHA). Employers can define the rules for how credits are used. For example, employees can exchange credits for cash or apply them to a 401(k).
